The Immingham Hotel, a hotel situated in Downtown Melbourne, Melbourneshire opened in 1910 to the public.
It was an upper-class hotel for upper-class people, VIPs, and celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, The Three Stooges, Eileen Stevens, Lucielle Ball, US President William Taft, Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, Julie Andrews, Cecil Parker, His Majesty King George V, and Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II herself. Pioneer of British country music William 'Willie Whisky' Jones also stayed in the hotel during his day before and during his passing, when he died of Tuberculosis in May 24th, 1946. Eventually, in the Spring of 1961, the hotel fell on hard times following a controversial revamp of the interior space in the first five floors, subsequently expanding to all thirteen floors. On (Friday, yes Friday), October 13th, 1972, an unknown serial killer, (Thought to be Jason Voorhees) slashed about 45 guests, 3 maids, and a receptionist. The culprit has never been seen or heard from ever since. 10 years follwing that fateful iccident, the hotel had about 3 more years until its licence had expired. But, 2 months before that, a hotel guest by the name of Jean-Paul Valdez smoked in his kitchen, causing a four alarm fire on the middle three floors. When the fire brigade had arrived just in time to put it out and the suspect had been arrested later for arson and resisting arrest, the brigade had searched all over the hotel and the lift shafts, and, happily, found no major damage to the property. Following the blaze, the hotel management, decided to finally close its doors after 75 long years of business. On one occasion, during the Summer of 1988, a vandal managed to get to the roof and tear out a red neon 'M' (The first M in the sign). In 2001, the city had threatened the hotel with demolition. Before the wrecking crews arrived, a non-profit organization called 'Melbourneshire Historic Landmark Society', founded in 1956, stopped the plan to tear down the historic hotel, they restored the hotel to its former pre-1960s condition within 5 years. On May 31st, 2007, the hotel finally re-opened as the Britannia Immingham Hotel, also regaining its lost 'M' during the refurbishment. Since then, the hotel has provided excellent service, attracting hundreds of thousands of friendly and trustworthy guests, without any iccident.
