This is a working cannon that will fire the player into the air.

Try to land on the target.

Tip: If you don't want to die, put on the boots (feather falling X) and eat a golden apple (for the status effect).

I used the "/testfor" command to detect the player inside the cannon, and the "/effect" command to give the player a jump boost.

"/testfor" again to detect player landing on the target.

If you have a way of changing to creative mode then you can dig directly below the cannon to see more.
