Welcome to Roma Antiquae 320 A.D.

This project has been ongoing on/off since 2012. We've worked hard and go to great lengths in order to achieve a satisfying build, not only visually but historically accurate as well. We wish to captivate ourselves and the players in the amazing charm and essence of immortality that is the city of Rome.
The build is based off historical accounts, archaeological academia and visual references. The scale is 1 block = 1 meter. Mapsize is 10 x 10 km in total. We use Ovos Rustic ressourcepack for the world.

This is one of he best Roman themed build I've ever seen, this really takes back you to those times, so colorful and vibrant yet elegant looking, the interiors looks quite good. I can't tell how big this project is is and that only means is really big.
it looks extremely cool. I wish could download it so badly.

COUGH!(I made a map that i think you should check out)COUGH!
High time you guys finally re-worked that old, severely outdated and simplistic version of the Colosseum. Can't wait to see the result.

Sometimes you start to wonder how you can miss these kind of impressive projects of the years without giving a diamond...
Either fixed it for this project ;)

By the way, impressive to keep working on this map after all these years.

For some reason I spawned in "The Duckhouse".
Is this intentional, and how to get to Rome from there?

Should be fixed now. If not warp to rome.
I am stunned!
unfortunatly now with the 1.9 update you cannot go into the map anymore because the server is out of date :(

Only thing you forgot is the hills that rome was built on. But with such a huge project, and not abandoning it half way through like I would, thats just details.

Don't know what you mean. We built all the hills using a topographical image of the terrain and then converting it into a minecraft generated map.

No, it isn't very good and flexible enough for a project like this - it is quite suitable for single, small buildings, but doesn't work for multiple styles of buildings quite as well.

Hey great builds! I too am making a reconstruction of Rome in roughly 325 A.D. I have a page for it if youd enjoy checking it out! Id love to hear your feedback! Great build again!
Hey man, loving this project. Hows the progress going? There has not been an update in a while.

Project is going strong! We've been super busy implementing 1:1 heightmap to our existing buildings. After that is done, we have about 5km x 5km of proper landscape of Rome, ensuring that all the buildings are in their correct height & place :)

It is just super work intensive, which takes time away from us making updates :(

You can visit our server though when ever you want and take a look at things :)

You should have a row of statues of Caesars since Julius to whoever was Caesar in 320 A.D. :D

Sory, but this Colosseum is bad.In Colosseum are two places for ceasar and senators. You have got only one place and this one place is for ceasar and two arches in gladiators entrances and upside in Colosseum is bad too.,but the Forum Romanum and other places is vey perfect.

You are indeed correct. The Colosseum's interior is not accurate as well.
We intend to re-do it again at a later point though.

Thanks for the input :)

Only thirty two diamonds? Pity. Your Latin needs some work (e.g.- Rome in Latin is a feminine noun, thus it wouldn't be the Forum Romanum. I believe it would be Forum Romanae, if you were going for the "Forum of Rome".) But that's the Latin dude over here yelling. The minecraft geek in my thinks this is amazing. Did you do research on the theatre? Cause I'm pretty sure that's a Greek design. But anyway. It's a nice build. +1 diamond.

Regarding the theatre, what you gotta remember is that the Romans pretty much used the same architectural style as the Greeks, a part from a few modifications.
The Greek treathres were more open and wider. The Roman version, was like this one more adjustable to city life, and therefore more cramped and higher.

There is alot of fun stuff you learn when you read about these buildings. The theathre for example was built by Julius Caesar to compete with Pompey's theathre which was a few streets away. Caesar wanted the biggest and best threathre in town, so he built it off of war spoils.

hhmmmm. Yah, I generally thought that Greek theatres were like what you have, and the Roman used the same design, only put two, back to back, to create 360 degrees. But I realize now that that design is mostly used for the Flavian Amphitheatre.
is this gonna end up being a server?

We have no plans of turning this into an rpg server where people pretend to be senators and emperors.
We might sometime in the future open it, for people to take a "tour" trough the ancient city.
