you know i did something like this on a sever where a toilet is like a trash can and you can see what people threw down so you could catch a griefer if they threw TNT down thier toilet!!

No offense, but that's a stupid idea - items last for 2-5 minutes before disappearing, and no griefer in their right mind would throw TNT away! Plus, most servers have TNT banned for most players.

Huh. Interesting. Have you considered a mob sewer system? It's an area below an above-ground house. Mobs fall into various canals, and all canals lead to the location underground in a huge pit area, where you generally use cactus or lava to kill them for the items.

you would not want to use lava... because the is a chance that the lave burns some of the items

Yeah, but not as much as cactus does. Besides, cactus takes forever, and lava does the job quick.
