I've been doing some work on an adventure map and decided I needed a switch that validates item type, and is relatively compact. This is the design I came up with after watching SethBling's payment machine video, which inspired this design. It takes up a 4x4 footprint (4x5 if you count the one block sticking out the back) and is 8 blocks tall.

It's the torch I placed on the L-shaped block on the bottom left if you're facing it from the front. (The part when I said you could place it on any face of that L-shaped block, but you're right that I never called it the output) It may help to check out the example I set up for the video in the world save for an example of how to integrate it into your systems.
