i saw large portals made but they didn't work so i made a large scale version of my nether portal
(i used MC Edit to place the portal in, it was the only way possible)

You could have used TooManyItems to place the portals, MCEdit isnt the only way.

You have to use Mcedit because when you place a portal block without lighting a portal, adjacent portal blocks destroy both blocks. In that case, Mcedit or worldedit is required.
