Description:
The Mars Project was an ambitious step in the NASA space programme. They had landed robots on Mars before, but sending people to live there was an entirely different approach.
Getting people to Mars was relatively easy. The new Orion spacecraft was more than capable of making the huge journey, and 2 astronauts succesfully landed. The problem was keeping them alive. The supply of water and air was extremely limited, and they eventually had to return succumbed to dehydration.
However, a second mission revealed something amazing: a compound known as Marsitum which decayed to form hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen, three essential elements for human survival. A second mission to Mars was able to locate a source of this compound, allowing the mission crew to establish a temporary biosphere from which they could live in basic comfort.
Three later missions built special mines to drill Marsitum, and eventually the Mars Project kicked into full swing with the establishment of two civilian complexes; Mars Complex A and B, each populating 24 civilians.
Mars Complex A began to experience strange disturbances from a nearby crater. This led to the discovery of large lifeforms which had previously been undetected by NASA. These lifeforms, nicknamed Martian Alligators, began to overun the two complexes. Mars Complex A was partially compleletly destroyed, and all 24 civilians were evacuated killed. Luckily, the alligators were successfully quaranteened by Complex B.
NASA immediately called off any future development of the project after the discovery of another large lifeform known as Spiked Purple Anacondas. Three have been discovered and successfully captured. Mars Complex B still exists and now sustains a thriving population, with new jets and other procedures in place to protect the complex from threats...
