OFFERING A NEW PERSPECTIVE OF THE ANCIENT WORLD´S RECREATION
I started Project Mesogeos in 2020 due my love for the Classical world and recreations. I started with Rome, Alexandria and Athens, but as the time passed I increased my efforts both on researching and representing the world. Because of it I have restarted the project over and over, but now the definitive one is taking shape. So far I´m working on Rome, Alexandria, Olympia, Italica and Athens. The goal is to offer a realistic and historically accurate approaching to ancient cities, using all the information available in order to do so. Those maps are intended for educational and research use, but you can also enjoy a walk or even role-playing for a server!
ABOUT ROMA
Rome was the capital city of the Roman Republic and later Empire, and also one of the largest and most famous cities of the ancient world. Albeit we all are familiarized with the late imperial city (around the 5th century AD) I preferred to make a recreation set in a more "original" timeset. In this case I choose the decade of the 70´s BC, the time of Julius Caesar´s youth, as the city was already the capital of a powerful empire, but at the same time it was very different from later times, with a reduced scale and monumentality. This setting also adds the challenge of a much more reduced documentation and fidelity, encouraging the use of hyphotesis and theories, but resulting in a more different approach to the city. Every building is documented (of course the quantity and quality of the information varies) and the scale/topography is the closest possible to reality. I will add the research diary once the mapt is ready to be uploaded.
Currently I´m using the 1.12.2 version in order to re-use assets from older maps in that version, but I´m interested to update the map to maybe 1.15 in the future.
