En el centro de la gran mayoría de las ciudades de México hay un parque, que mas que un elemento ornamental tenia una importante función que era la de tener un acceso a una fuente, de la cual se sacaban cubetas de agua para el consumo de los hogares. Pero con el tiempo y la llegada del drenaje moderno las fuentes de los parques se convirtieron en otro elemente decorativo.

Otra función de los parques era la de tener un lugar limpio y de un olor agradable para descansar, relajarse, conocer personas, y enterarse de los nuevos acontecimientos, de allí que en muchos parques haya algún tipo de escenario o tienda de periódicos.

Mis abuelos y padres cuentan que hace tiempo los parques se utilizaban para conseguir pareja, en ciertas épocas del año, las mujeres caminaban en sentido antihorario y los hombres caminaban en el sentido horario, los hombres daban una rosa a las mujeres que les gustaban y si la mujer aun tenia tu flor entre las manos después de dar una vuelta entera al parque significaba que no le gustabas, pero si le hombre le gustaba cambiaria de dirección y caminaría a la par de el hombre.
