did u use photoshop elemnts or something ? anyway program usually have a blur or smudge tool use that to add an effect of speed

How did you add a bit of an after image to the character in the minecart ?

copy it. motion blur it in the direction you want, and erase whats in front of it so its only behind the character. its pretty easy.
if you need help with anything else i could like start a blog or something. i know a lot of skill tips in Photoshop.
