Here's a pretty useful redstone contraption that I made a while back. It's a system that loads up minecarts with items and then unloads them. What's the best part? It's fully automatic! :D

So you cant use a double chest?

In the item input/output areas or additional minecarts? Because if you are referring to the input and output I don't see why you wouldn't be able to add an additional chest. Additional minecarts however would be an issue as I assume they would get stuck.
