Ryan has the right idea: hook up two flip-flops (one at the top, the other at the bottom) that way, the stairs will "open" and "close" when you go up or down them.

Another idea (I have this same sort of staircase in my home on my server) is to make the walls out of stairs as well, as to hide the stairs a little bit.

you should put a pressure plate instead of a switch, and put a delay, so when u walk up, it goes back behind u
