Are you tired of running across your base just to take a few blocks out of your storage system, but your ender chest is just not big enough? With this contraption, you can access your stuff anywhere in your base!

The system

The mobile storage system consists of three main parts: The panels, the routers and the rails.

The rails

The rails connect all the panels and routers together. They consist of a normal rail track in the middle, for the chest minecarts that make up the storage, and a redstone line on each side, for summoning the minecarts. The repeaters on the redstone lines have the track on their left and are themselves on the right.

The panels

The panels are used to access the minecarts. When the button is pressed, they will send a redstone signal down the redstone lines to all the other panels. When another panel receives the redstone signal, it will drop the minecarts, if it has them, and send them down the tracks.

The routers

When more than two panels are employed, the routers come into play. The routers act like three-way switches for the tracks. When a router receives a redstone signal, it will do two things: It will relay the signal to any other connected routers and panels, and it will remember the direction the signal came from, so it can send any minecarts to the requesting panel.

The network

All of these components are connected into one big network. A redstone signal will travel through it, branching at each router, until it finds the minecarts. The minecarts will then the backtrack and arrive at the requesting panel. The network can't have any loops, in other words, it must be a tree.

The download

Using the link above, you can download a .zip file. This file contains two files, "Showcase" and "Datapack". "Showcase" is a 1.16.1 world that has all possible orientations of panels and routers, structure blocks for placing them and a functional example system. "Datapack" is a datapack which contains panels and routers as structures. The datapack is not needed for the system to work.
