or, from what it looks like, lots of small holes (and if you have an inventory editor use it to get mob spawners and put them up there) :)

notch said he would be adding a trap door or something. I think you should wait until it comes out (or just put a hole in the floor) then put it in the floor of a second story of the arena and make it so it's really dark up there. then mobs will fall down the hole, and into the arena.
