If you have read the mortal engine series, then you will know what an amazing series they are. Very imaginative, creative, thrilling and unpredictable. (If you have NOT read the series, then buy the first book, trust me, you'll love it). The idea behind the book is that a massive war has wiped out all modern technology (They don't have CDs, but have lamps etc.), and resources are scarce. The city of London was home to the greatest engineers in the country, and they developed wheels that could support the city. London was separated into tiers, and it started moving. There are a couple of fundamental tiers; The bottom is the engine layer, this is where slaves and engineers work (Oh yes, they brought back the slave trade). There is then the factory/production tier. Criminals and slaves work here, stripping down materials of manufacturing goods. Then we move onto the scummy part of town. The poor and lower class live here. There is then the next tier - which depending on the size of the city - homes the middle class, or both the middle and upper class. The next to last tier is made up of very important people and public figurers, and the last two are usually the mayors house, or an over watch.
(Please tell me if I have something wrong.)

I intend to recreate a small traction city within minecraft. If I do finish the map (Which I really hope I do) I will then add custom map elements (Hopefully sticking to the story line)

UPDATE - 11th of May 2013
So I started making my texture pack, and this is going to change a lot of things in the game. Hopefully there will be custom names for the items too... it is looking good so far, getting some paintings done, getting items retextured (and mobs :D). I am not going to deviate from the default minecraft, just adding things on. For example, making on and off glowstone (Yes glowstone, the ON glowstone (that glows) is actually glowstone, where as the dull OFF one, is the same texture, but on a lapis block in black and white.) That might sound confusing, but you will see :D

As of now, there is a new Mortal Engines movie coming out produced by Peter Jackson. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9pbHfhwfna322iOSTMeniVF02LtMXsB9 I wonder if there should be a Minecraft mod allowing cities to actually move just like in the film.

There have been no updates as I am waiting until the texturepack so-far has been finished so I know what blocks to build in and where to place or replace some blocks. Sorry!

Hmm, didn't really decide, that, but nice to see a fellow fan of the series! And no, this is hopefully going to be set after London was destroyed, so further out in the desert I may make the remains, and you get teleported their by engineers. I have started including the Green Storm, but they are known as rebels so far. The story line progresses as you move up the tiers. And to answer your question to the best of my ability, it would probably be a small city, like Lym Regis or something. (I might stick with that, the idea of a fishing city in the middle of the desert does sound quite funny).

I like the idea of moving up the tiers and progressing through the storyline! Perhaps you should make a new, nomadic desert city to fill the boots of an existing one. And furthermore, perhaps you'd like some help with the textures, I'd be happy to lend a hand.

Very good idea, just make a new one. Then I could have my own story line! :D
And yes, I would love help with the textures SO very much! If you are happy to help, I would give you full credit for all of your work. Thank you very much for the kind offer!!!
If you message me your skype, facebook or email details I would appreciate it. I can explain the problems I have and send you all the files (if you want).
