Nemesis
Nemesis is an interesting concept: the world of a small-scale RPG in Minecraft. The idea was conceived during the days of 1.2.5, when I had gone through a myriad of adventure maps myself. Fighting monsters, looting dungeons, speeding through obstacle courses - the adventure map played so well into the survival dynamic of the vanilla game. Nemesis was my own take on the adventure map. The original prototype had standard fare among the genre: cookie cutter houses, mediocre fetch-quests, and levers as keys. As time passed, I grew bored of the project and abandoned it, focusing my efforts on a private server. In that time I would release "Arksdale", an incomplete map that was played by few and critiqued by none. The perfectionist within me had lost all hope of releasing quality content.

Then, the 1.5 "Redstone Update" was released. I had enjoyed the "Pretty Scary Update" because it added to the survival dynamic as well as to the development of adventure maps. Custom potions, command blocks, and Withers quickly became common among the genre. 1.5, however, had little significance to me. I used redstone rarely and only when necessary; on most occasions I resorted to plugins or mods. However, this was actually the best update Minecraft had received in a long time. I would go into detail on this, but that isn't what this description is about.

A few days ago, I played an adventure map. This map was called "Herobrine's Return" by Hypixel. I had played Hypixel's previous maps "Herobrine's Mansion" and "The Walls", and I knew he was a savvy redstone technician as well as an overall clever mapmaker. Everything that I thought was incredible about Mansion - custom loot, monster spawns, villager shops, boss fights - was thrown out the window when I played this newfangled, mind-blowing adventure. Hypixel's newest creation was more than a step forward, it was an inspiration. When I played "Herobrine's Return", I realized that this was Nemesis. This was what I had dreamed of doing all those months ago. My hat is off to him for creating what is currently the best representation of a small-scale RPG in a Minecraft adventure map.

My little perfectionist nagged at me again. I had to try this out. I couldn't sit here while history was being made with incredible Minecraft technology that was leaps and bounds ahead of mine. And so Nemesis was reborn into my conscience, and the work began.
