This is a working grand piano with 49 keys, 3 pedals, and other options that can be played and can play music! No resource packs or mods are used and it works completely in vanilla 1.8.

By the way, all of the seats in the auditorium can be sat in because why not?

(Note: Map can be used with MC version 1.8 or certain snapshots)

Update: Fixed a little bug with the title in the sheet music not showing the "Now Playing" text.

Update2: Fixed a bug where playing a composition who's command blocks are located next to another one's in the main mechanism causes both to play. Piano Mechanic schematic and the Grand Piano map's compose guide and mechanic have been updated. Thanks to /u/KamikazePlatypus over on reddit for notifying me!

Update3: I linked the download to the first version on accident. *Facepalm* Fixed now :P.

[ Reddit Post ]

Features:
- 4 Octave keyboard with sharps and flats
- Animated keys and pedals when used
- 3 Working pedals (Soft, Sostenuto, and Damper)
- 4 Sound options (Normal, BD/Snare, Hat/Pling, Sound/Noise)
- Toggleable display for notes and pedals
- Two playing methods
- Piano bench that can be sat on with container inside it
- Playable music
- Ability to write your own music
- General cool look!

Instructions for music writing are located in the map download.

If you'd like to put this into your world, schematics are available. You must set the main contraption inside a chunk that is always loaded, but the piano itself can be placed anywhere in the world to be used.

Download comes with:
- Full map with all command blocks and piano itself plus auditorium
- Piano schematic
- Piano Mechanic schematic (Command blocks)
- Piano Compose Mode schematic
- Piano Compose Sheet Music Template
- Demo music piece

About Composing: You do not need to use the template to write your music. All you need is the starting bit and armor stand. From there, you can opt to use repeaters instead of command blocks to play your music at a better pace for your needs. If you do use repeaters, the music stopping feature won't be possible, unless you make your own mechanism to stop the music, so keep that in mind. Theoretically, you could use Note Block Studio to make a schematic of your music, and use that by replacing all notes of a certain type with the corresponding command block using /fill replace, and adding in pedals and sound changes manually.

How do you make the notes go past Minecraft's limited options for note sounds? I was curious because this would really help me in a project I'm creating.

Sadly, no. The pitch can only go from 0 to 2, and it won't go any lower/higher than that

This was done with no resource pack and only default texture pack. What you see is made up of armor stands and blocks only.

Well then how come when you switch back to 1.7.9 it doesnt work?
  • Onnowhere
  • Level 62
  • High Grandmaster Cyborg
  • September 13, 2014, 10:25 am
The map is made for 1.8. Previous versions do not have armor stands, which are a 1.8 feature. If you downgraded the map to 1.7 already, reopenning it in 1.8 may no longer have the armor stands as they may have been removed becaues of the downgrade, I believe. If that happens you'll need to use a new copy of it to see them again.
