Seem interesting and disapointing at the same time, I have built ranch homes, bungalows and many other things like that in the past and even now (I am currently building a town with retro houses on TBS). The best thing to do realistic houses is to know how it look and what is the floorplan, when I am building, I always take houses I found on Internet. I recommend you to go see my town on TBS for inspiration (it is pretty far from the Htt realism) but it will give you an idea.
