Welcome to my castle build, Stonepyre.
This is a project started in Survival (normal difficulty) since September 2011, using no cheats, no mods to create a dark, ominous looking fortress. I only used JohnSmith texture pack, and MCedit to elevate the build or transfer it to another world when updates warranted it for new blocks types. Chunky was used for the screenshot rendering
Build is now available for download! Please remember that:
Enjoy!

Build is now available for download! Please remember that:
- This is still work in progress: still lots of work left to do obviously, and working in Survival takes ages (that's why am sharing now otherwise you guys will wait for even more years to get something useful).
- Best experience with JohnSmith texture pack: am working exclusively with this pack, so your mileage may vary if you use something else.
- Disable clouds! Otherwise they will go through the build since it's quite tall. Go to Options > Video Settings > Clouds:off to do so.
- Please give me credits! I hope you will enjoy using the castle as much as I had building it, but please give me credits by linking to this page if you use it somewhere else. Takes five minutes and really is appreciated, thank you!
I do not authorize this build to be uploaded or re-used on other sites without my permission.
Enjoy!
Current Build Specs:
- Size: approximately 199 wide x 157 length x 249 height
- Composition: mainly made of stone variants, including quarts, obsidian, chiseled stone, stone bricks, all mined by hand in survival. Rooftops are made of nether bricks and stairs.
- Little wool used: I don't like working with wool on Survival builds, because of its poor blast resistance, flammability and its bright tones don't fit the theme I want for this castle. Besides, if I have to manually harvest blocks I'd rather mine than breed sheep for hours. As a result, only a few wool blocks have been used so far for the outside walls.
- Four fully-functioning portcullis: two making up the external gate houses and two other that separate the various baileys. All based on the excellent
- Historical defenses: while this is a fantasy build, I did my best to create fortifications using terrain. It also has functional machiculations, thick walls, proper towers and was designed to prevent monsters from spawning inside the walls by using light and half-slabs.
What's left:
- Work on the interiors: while the exteriors are now in an acceptable state, almost none of the interiors are done. This is particularly true for the interiors of the keep, which I haven't touched for a long while (my base of operation, including smelting / store and Nether Portal are in the castle basement and the great hall)
- Add a third layer of walls: ideally I want to cover the whole hill with fortifications to take advantage of the height and position.
- Add more functional buildings: while the build is aesthetically pleasing it lacks practical purpose. I need to add more farms, make use of various monster spawners I found underground and a stronghold just west of the build.
Additional Notes
Credits, external tools and redstone designs:
- Evilsketch for his amazing statues.
- Xisumavoid for his compact chicken cooker farm.
- Bizrebellion82 for his afk-fish farm
- Using JohnSmith Legacy texture pack.
- ZirumsHeroTWR, for his Cobblestone Factory.
- Thingthug, for his functional but yet neat looking obsidian generator.
- Chunky, an awesome scene generator tool to create this project pictures.
- MCedit, a world editor allowing me to elevate the build as the Minecraft height increased.
- Minecraft medieval fortress guide for the various designs, especially the powered portcullis since I suck at redstone :P

I will see if and when I resume working on it, no promises though :)
I could make a save game there but then I suspect people will get lost trying to get out.
I think a huge dungeon underneath would fit the whole dragon-castle-theme perfectly.
Keep on the good work!
And thanks for support people.
