Updated for 1.18.2. Uses the Conquest texture pack. Use Optifine. All interiors fully-furnished.

Montspire Castle, originally known as the "Mount of Spires," is an old Drwennish fortress now acting as the royal capital of the Stone Orchard region. Here dwells the Duke of Stone Orchard, Prince Anton of the Royal lineage of the Kingdom of the Blood Rose.

  • The castle was constructed on Canis Isle by the Drwennish long ago, in the old days, in times mostly forgotten. The entire structure is made of large stone blocks, cut precisely so as to be assembled without need of any kind of mortar or bonding material.

  • The bricks are made of stone tempered in ink, to give them their black coloration, as well as additional tensile integrity.

  • The castle holds a secret or two... Which reminds me of something I learned from this project: Some castles had special rooms for storing beer kegs -or "butts"- called a "Buttery."

  • Note the fortifications: There are numerous gatehouses, drawbridges, towers, murder holes and arrow loopholes, machicolations, crenellations, and merlons in spades, and even a couple of false floors. The path to the keep and Don Jon is designed to be a long death trap in the event of a siege, making the journey as slow, difficult, and deadly as possible

  • No garderobes, sorry.

I read that the Kingdom of the Blood Rose is religious and theocratic. To support that, my next suggestion would be to add some sort of chapel to the castle.

The Drwennish culture is areligious, and so does not include chapels in their structures. I had intended for the room with the organ crammed into it to be a kind of converted chapel, but there wasn't enough space. In any case, I decided that the royal family is actually somewhat religiously ambiguous, being naturally aloof and secretive. Just how much influence the church and royalty have on each other and the leadership of the kingdom is unclear to the public. Both these powers preach and demand blind faith, for the kingdom and the Master, to forgo transparency in their actions.

Anyway, I don't think a chapel is essential. I'm going to ditch that organ though. That's a weird spot to put one, now that I think about it.

Strange I never thought to add one in the first place. Yeah I'll add one, good shout.

To add to my last comment, are you planning to add some public bathrooms for the servants and soldiers? Maybe use hoppers for toilets if garderobes aren't an option. By the way, Soloman Manor is epic, great build as always.

I figured they would use chamber pots. Solomon Manor has bathrooms because the building is more recent.

Glad you liked it ;]

Is there an armory in the castle?

There's a few odd places I intended to work as small armories, like just off the dining hall or in the observation tower attached to the keep. Before the 1.18 update I was able to use biome-specific textures for doors that made them look like weapon racks, but I had to get rid of them because in order to make them work, I would have to change the immediate area into soul sand valley, which has unwanted particle and ambient effects.

But, since you mention it, I ought to go back through and toss up some armor stands and such to make the armories look more like armories.
