Ruan Center, Two Ruan Center, Bankers Trust, & Liberty Building

All four buildings in this submission are located on the block of Completed in 1975, the Ruan Center was the tallest building in Iowa until the completion of 801 Grand, and it is currently the second tallest building in Iowa exceeding the Marriott Hotel. The building is locally known as the "rusty skyscraper" because of the 6,300 tons of Cor-Ten steel cladding used in and on the skyscraper that rusts. This building is one of the most recognizable buildings in the Des Moines skyline.

In 1923, just 7 years after the Des Moines Register & Tribune, the Liberty Building was constructed and has been a landmark of downtown Des Moines for almost a century. The building is home to shops, office space, condos, and currently, the Hyatt Place Hotel owns a majority of the building.
