The S3 Viking was a carrier-based, all-weather, long-range, subsonic jet aircraft designed and manufactured by Lockheed Martin (originally by the Vought Corporation) for the United States Navy. Introduced in the early 1970s, the S3 Viking primarily served as an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft, equipped with advanced sonar systems, sonobuoys, and torpedoes to detect and neutralize enemy submarines. Over its service life, the Viking also undertook roles such as aerial refueling, electronic warfare, and surface surveillance. Renowned for its versatility and reliability, the S3 Viking remained an integral part of naval operations until its retirement in 2009.
