This is a relatively challenging version of Skyblock. I got inspired to make this while playing DrTrog's Skyblock 4.09. I wanted to make a map that was similar in potential, while giving the player less resources. The world generation in this map was modified, so there is no world border in this version. I changed the world bottom to be at y=192, so you're above the clouds in this version!

The black fog that appears when you go below sea level is lowered to 30 blocks above the bottom of the world, and it appears more gradually as you go down.

There are no surrounding islands where you can get items from different biomes, as you can get most of those from the wandering trader. You'll get some of the items he doesn't give you as a reward for advancements.

A free cam feature is added to the datapack, so you can see your builds from a distance!

The map has custom advancements, some of which I've left like DrTrog's, others I changed. The book you're given in the starter chest contains some hints if you get stuck, but if you have any questions, feel free to post them below. Alternatively, you can join the discord, where we also share screenshots! Enjoy!

6 Update Logs

1.20a : by Papa_Lovegood 06/11/2023 5:58:22 amJun 11th

Hi everyone! This update makes the pack work in 1.20. It adds some minor changes and the version names will match the minecraft version they're released on from now on.

1.20 Brings us a lot of cool ways to add lore to our worlds. I want skyblock players to have access to that customization, while keeping the changes to the datapack limited (again, as it's in the spirit of skyblock 5 not to change a lot to the vanilla game.

The armor trims are supposed to be the spoils of your adventures, so it makes sense to give them as rewards for some achievements. Find out yourself what achievements give armor trims! Be sure to copy them using the vanilla crafting recipes before using them, though. Oh, as the ward and silence trims use deepslate in vanilla, which you can't obtain in skyblock, the recipes in skyblock use basalt.

Archaeology is obviously impossible in a world above the clouds. To make pottery shards make sense, I'd have to add some magic or something to skyblock, which I'm not going to do. Just adding crafting recipes is not in the spirit of the pack, so for now, the pottery sherds are unavailable. If you have an idea to integrate them into skyblock, let me know!

That's it for the patch notes. Thanks for continuing to enjoy the pack everyone! Feel free to join the discord, I'd love to see some progress updates or answer your questions.

Have fun!

Hello! Excellent map, I'm already playing it, greetings from Argentina! I have a question: I can't get the Wandering trader to appear. I have the animals locked in boats, the hostile mob farm is far from my base, and I built a solid block base with lighting (I didn't use low tiles). It's been several days but it doesn't show up. Does it only show up if I have a lot of villagers and a bell? Thank you!

Hi! Thanks for your kind words! Short answer: sounds like you got unlucky, you should probably wait longer. ;)

Long answer: the wandering trader has a separate mob cap from other mobs, so no need to take precautions. It's also the only mob that will despawn even if you name tag or boat it. The only way to stop it from despawning is to put it in unloaded chunks.

The trader only makes an attempt to spawn every 20 minutes. Bells and villages don't increase spawn rates. The spawn attempts are made in a 96x96 square around a player in the overworld. Make sure your platform is large enough! You don't need the entire size, because the trader makes 10 spawn attempts at different locations. If you use the full size, you should get one every few hours. For a cool design, you can check ilmango's video on his skyblock 1.19 series.

If there is already a loaded wandering trader when the 20 minute mark is reached, the game won't try to spawn another one. Instead, the existing trader has a chance to despawn.

I always like to find my own ways to do things, so I'll leave it at this for now, to give you a chance to figure it out yourself. If you want more explanation, I'm happy to tell you some more.
I hope that answers your question! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them :)

Hello again! Ender's Eye does not work on Obsidian or Weeping Obsidian. I duplicated the map to test a portal to the end in creative mode and it doesn't activate either. And when I try to cast the eye of ender it doesn't do anything either.
Is there a way to get squid and cocoa beans? Thank you, sorry for my English.

Hi there! It works for me. I do it by placing the Crying Obsidian where I want the portal block to be, then casting an Eye of Ender while targeting it. The Crying Obsidian block is replaced by a portal block and my Eye of Ender is consumed.

You can get cocoa beans by fishing in a jungle biome. Squid don't spawn, but you can get ink sacs from fishing as well. If it's black dye you need, you could also make a wither rose farm, but I recommend trapping the wither in the end fountain, which requires you to go to the end first ;)

Did you manage to get a trader yet? :D

Yeah! I managed to make the merchant appear. But it takes a long time. It requires big platforms where I have my main camp, solid blocks and with all the animals in boats. But even with all these measures, it takes many days of minecraft until it appears. And as a merchant appears and I kill him after buying, it takes longer and longer for the new merchant to appear. Thank you very much for your help!

Good to hear! My pleasure :)
The things you mention don't really affect the spawn rate, but I know how easy it is to get superstitious when things go too slowly. Did the end portal thing work for you yet?

I'm a big skyblock fan and was really excited to see your map, and having a great time so far. But I'm having issues with passive mob spawning and I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same trouble? Pigs spawned once close to spawn (within about 30 blocks, not sure which biome though) while I was near world bottom building a mob grinder, but haven't seen anything else since then. I've got a grass platform about 40 blocks from spawn in a plains biome at y=252, well lit up, fenced in, mob grinder off, about 8 pigs and 4 chickens resident tallied against the passive cap. I even afk'd for about 6 hours and nothing showed up. Is there some thing about the world generation that's messing with the usual spawn rules?

Hi, I'm glad you like the map. It's funny, something similar happened to me when I wanted to spawn in frogs. Turns out the mob cap is only 10 for passive mobs. Even when you don't load them in, they count towards the cap, because they are in the spawn chunks. You don't really notice this in vanilla, because passive mobs spawn as part of the world generation. So nothing wrong with your platform :)
I can tell you what I did to solve my problem, but for me, part of the fun in skyblock is to find my own way of solving things, so I won't unless you ask me to.
Does that help?
