There are no mobs spawning. There is no way to have iron or else.

The iron comes from a zombie drop, which has a rare chance to do so. And to get the mobs to spawn, build a floor at least 24 blocks from spawn and build a small size platform, and go back to the main island. Mobs should spawn at night and day. Hope this helps!
