I've managed to create a link between two chests. One is visible and accessible, while the other is underground and unnaccessible. Using some redstone magic, you can send items up or down, from one chest to the other. That basically gives the power of having two double chests of storage within only one of them!

This contraption only works if used with one type of item per set of chests, you should not use it with several different types.
