The first map I published on PMC was a Soviet Gulag. I have now worked with many mods and programs in order to recreate a similar map. I present to you a new and improved Gulag. This was a difficult project. However, thanks to WorldPainter and WorldEdit, the map was finished earlier than expected and the result was much better. I also must thank the creators of the mods CustomNPCs, Camera Obscura, and Modern Warfare. I used these mods to take many of the screenshots above.

The Gulags (ГУЛаг) were Soviet labor camps set up in Siberia. They were created under the leadership of Vladimir Lenin but became famous under Joseph Stalin. Stalin sent political prisoners, POWs, doctors, teachers, scientists, military officials, and anybody else who got in his way out into these camps. Prisoners at gulags were forced to do hard labor and work without proper tools or enough clothing. This became very problematic during winter were the temperature would be far below freezing. Many gulag prisoners were sent to fight on the front lines during the Second World War and other Soviet military campaigns throughout Stalin's reign. Many gulag prisoners were freed after Stalin died. However, the system would remain until Mikhail Gorbachev finally abolished it in 1987.
