The II-18 series includes several types of high-rise apartment buildings constructed at different times. The first 8- and 9-story versions, II-18-01/08 MIB and II-18-01/09 MIB, were designed and built during the 1957–1960s. Block buildings of this type were constructed in almost all districts of Moscow.
The second version is II-18/12. These are 12-story buildings with one-, two-, and three-room apartments.
All buildings are designed as so-called “tower” buildings, as they have only one entrance/stairwell. The main advantage of these buildings is the wide spacing between load-bearing walls, which allows apartments to be remodeled more freely.
Buildings of the II-18/12 series can be found not only in Moscow but also in the Moscow Region and other Russian cities, including Tver.
Depending on the layout, the apartments have either adjacent rooms (where the living room is a walk-through room) or separate rooms.
Various apartment remodeling plans have been developed for buildings of the II-18 series that do not require approval.
The remodeling plans presented in this section for typical II-18 series apartments do not affect load-bearing structures. Therefore, carrying out such remodeling does not require the preparation of a reconstruction project or a preliminary inspection of the apartment
