Hello guys, Giantcreeper501 here looking for some people to help me build a Springfield map. As such I would appreciate the help. Hey,
So I'm sure you've heard of Northampton, MA, since I'm assuming you live in Springfield, about 30 minutes from my house. 
In school I'm in charge of a project building a 1:1 Northampton Minecraft world. 
Tip 1: You definitely do not want to do it on a regular world. You want to find either terrain topographic maps, or maps of streets/buildings. Then, you want to import those maps, scaled, into minecraft using either Spritecraft or Worldpainter.
Our project is flat, split into chunks, taken from accurate maps from the city planning department. We will add some hills and such later. The map is 1:1, with 1 block= almost exactly 1 meter.

Goodluck with your project, just know it will take a lot of work, and you would need accurate dimensions. 
If you're not doing exact, then I would still reccomend building on a rough estimate  map of terrain.
