This is my recreation of the famous Temple of Bacchus, currently situated in Baalbek, Lebanon. The Temple of Bacchus was likely built sometime during the reign of Antoninus Pious (AD 138-161) and was an important addition to the Sanctuary of Jupiter at Baalbek -- also known as the Heliopolis. The temple was dedicated to Bacchus, the Roman god of wine and festivities (Roman equivalent to Dionysus), but little is known about it's construction methods, usage, or overall purpose in the Heliopolis structure. We also do not know about its patron(s). Like most temples of antiquity outside of Rome, the Temple of Bacchus contains many mysteries, but it is considered one of the best preserved provincial dedicatory temples in existence today.

My intention was to not stray far from official 3D-rendered recreations of the Temple of Bacchus that you can find online. I focused heavily on detailing the exterior and interior -- leaving no space untouched. The exterior features a double frieze: one wrapping around the podium and one around the entablature. I used the same columns and pediment shape from my Temple of Jupiter Baalbek recreation, but everything else (podium, entablature, friezes, tympanum, interior, cella, and acroterion) are unique to this temple. I wanted to keep with the same theme as the Temple of Jupiter, but I wanted to throw in even more detail for uniqueness. In addition, keeping with the same theme allows me to pursue making the entire Heliopolis at this scale if that is something I feel like doing (or is heavily requested).

By far, I consider this to be my best Roman temple recreation in Minecraft to date. The exterior is by many accounts very accurate, though I did take some creative liberties with the interior in an effort to experiment with different detailing designs (I was also faced with the issue of not enough room for certain elements). Overall, this build took around 20 hours to complete, but in reality it was built over a 2-week span. Building all of these massive temples is an honor, but it can also be very tiring. Thus, I'm announcing that I will be building only one more temple at this scale in the 5:1 series for the time being. That temple will likely be the Temple of Venus, a very unique structure that uses a clam shell pillar layout and is still standing today in the remnants of the Heliopolis of Baalbek. This way, I would've completed all three temples of the Sanctuary of Jupiter.

I hope you enjoyed this build! As always, please feel free to dm me on PMC or Discord for any business inquiries or build requests. Hope y'all have a good day :D
