This is my recreation of the Temple of Portunus, one of the most famous (and mysterious) surviving temples from the ancient Roman imperial world. It is currently situated along the Tiber River, and was originally build between the 4th and 3rd centuries BCE. There was also a refacing that likely happened sometime in the 1st century BCE.
This temple has opened up many doors to historians and architects interested in republican Rome. Portunus is made of travertine and used stucco for detailing and reliefs. No one knows who or what this temple was dedicated to, and the ornamentation/layout of the interior still remains a mystery to this day. Other than that, the temple is extremely well preserved and has been used as a "hallmark structure" by historians and academics for the past several decades. Comparatively to other temples, Portunus is smaller in scale, but it stands out given its lavish ionic columns and deep pediment.
I did my best in keeping true to the actual Temple of Portunus in this recreation with the layers and the order. I chose a primarily red and white palette for the exterior along with a copper palette for the statues. The interior is done by imagination and is not based off of any particular temple interior.
