This is a Minecraft re-creation of the iconic Texas Capitol building. Built in 1882, the original capitol building was constructed using pink granite sourced from Marble Falls, TX. The Texas pink granite used gave the building its unique reddish pink color and appearance. To date, the Texas Capitol is the largest state capitol building in the United States.

The Texas Capitol has always been an interesting example of classical/renaissance architecture to me, for its striking reddish pink color and iconic appearance. It is one of several pieces of architecture that makes me proud to be a Texan.

In the process of recreating this building, I used Elijah Myer's original section and elevation drawings from 1882. I also custom made a texture pack to replicate the exact look and feel of the Texas pink granite.

It's been so long since I last built something in Minecraft, a luxury when you have to juggle so many responsibilities in life. 2020 has been a trainwreck so far, but thanks to the quarantine, at least now I have a healthy amount of spare time to pursue my renewed interest in Minecraft.

This will be a part of my bigger project to recreate Downtown Austin in Minecraft (which I may or may not finish before the end of time), stay tuned for updates!
