The oldest building on the Minecraft server that I play on, the Cathedral of Saint Michal and Saint Mark, known to residents of Omelas simply as "The Cathedral" is the centerpiece of the Spawn Plaza, a masterwork of Neo-Gothic architecture, and the most visible landmark on the Northern Banks of the River Pyx.
The original skeleton of the Cathedral was constructed on the First HP Creative Server, and since then it has survived several griefing attacks and two renovations that have led to the final product that you see before you. The building itself is an engineering marvel, constructed over a period of two months and finally opening its doors to the public this past January. Since then, the building has played host to numerous weddings, funerals, celebrations, and coronations.
The structure is centered around the Western Facade, which is dominated by two large towers that loom over the Spawn Plaza and a large rose window. As you proceed inside, you enter the massive nave of the building that towers almost 40 meters above your head. As you make your way down to the intersection of the transepts, you are able to walk into the ambulatory behind the choir loft where various confessionals and altars are located. Below the main floor of the cathedral lies the crypt, most recently completed and opened for burial in late July.
The building is open to the public during daylight hours. Visits to the top of either tower cost $5.
