Description:
The Huascar monitor was a 19th century warship of outstanding participation in the Pacific War, also known as Guano War and Saltpeter. It was constructed in the United Kingdom in 1864 by order of the Peruvian government and served in the Peruvian Navy to 8 of October of 1879, when it was captured by the Chilean squadron in the naval combat of Angamos. The Huascar served actively in the Navy of Chile until 1897, when it was discharged. It currently serves as a floating maritime museum in the Chilean port of Talcahuano, Biobío Region. It is considered the second oldest armored (armored) armored in the world, after the HMS Warrior.
On October 8, 1952, in commemoration of the Combat of Angamos, the restoration of the Huascar monitor was officially inaugurated, becoming a sanctuary of the Naval Glories of the Armed Forces of Chile and Peru.
