Welcome to the most ambitious project of my life -- and one of the largest and most time-consuming in Minecraft history, by a single builder in Creative Mode. I'm building this by hand (Creative Mode, without mods, etc.) in 1.8.9 since I dislike 1.9+. The Texture Pack is one of the greatest I've ever seen: Winthor Medieval.

It's already been a week, though I've not made as much progress as I wanted. It took a long time to figure out, and some of the elements were tedious.

I also wanted to add to the update: I don't know if I want to include a main road. Some other things might change, as well.

I largely completed the central pathway and added in most of the Cobblestone to the courtyard area. The central pathway is based on the gardens of the Liechtenstein Palace. I might add some Steve statues down the sides, named after famous librarians and classical historians. If not, they'll go underground in a hall somewhere.

I'm going to lightly populate the world with 'people' (Armour Stands), and assume a summer day at 7:15, dawn. This way, it feels 'lived in' and vibrant, but is empty enough to enjoy as a visitor. (Of course, there is a normal Day/Night Cycle, so it's not actually fixed at Dawn.) I'm also going to add cars (I've tested one; cannot see in screenshots.) I'm sure I'll make some historical and otherwise mistakes. But, I'm doing my best to make it coherent and believable.

The other thing I completed was the triumphal arch, inspired by the one Speer planned for Germania (German 'world capital', post-WWII). However, it's even more polygonic (as opposed to the French) as I couldn't get the arch to work, so it may or may not look wrong. Either way, it's slightly larger than the French at 70 blocks (m) tall and 80 blocks (m) wide. However, Speer's planned arch was to be a remarkable 120 m tall. I simply didn't have the space, as the ground level is 180, and the build limit for 1.8.9 is 255. (I decided it was best if the entire project is by Speer to ensure consistency, if I base the buildings on the same architect; however, everything else is quite varied. And I have lots of plans for the rest of the project.)

The final thing I did was create two large obelisks at the end of the pool (again, inspired by Speer's Germania with his pool and obelisks). Once again, they are 70 blocks (m) due to the height limit. I tried to create somewhat of an Art Deco style with the top.

See the final image for the possibly-not-at-all-final plans for a good sense of the entire project.

Extra note: I'm thinking about pushing the project slightly in the direction of Neo-Classical and Art Deco (a la New York), because I love it and it also brings in some more artistic and less harsh elements. This may well define the interior (above ground). I'm calling this new style 'Stripped Deco'. For the underground, I'm likely going Eastern, but we'll talk about that when I get there.

In Update #3, I hope to complete the entire front exterior and more of the library building exterior. We'll see. :)
