New and improved!
Smelt a full double chest (3,510 items) in 3.5 minutes -- in style!
Items are now distributed using hoppers rather than minecarts -- which eliminates the 10 stack bottleneck (previous design could not process more than 10 stacks at a time). This also reduces the smelting time.
New design can handle anywhere between 8 items and a full double chest. Must feed at least 8 items for the smelting process to activate.
I managed also to shrink some of the redstone (fewer components needed to build).
YouTube explanation video coming soon. I'll do a block-by-block tutorial if there's demand.
