U.S.S. Cairo

Hey guys! Here's a little mini build I did over the winter break, the Civil War Ironclad U.S.S. Cairo which I had the opportunity to visit over the break. The Cairo was built in 1861 and served in the Union Navy against the Confederacy, however it was sunk only a year later in 1862 by a Confederate underwater mine. The Cairo sunk into the Mississippi River with no casualties as all the crew were able to get off safely. The Cairo was salvaged in 1964 and was brought to Vicksburg Mississippi, site of the famous Battle of Vicksburg during the Civil War. She remains there at Vicksburg National Military Park to this day, and is open alongside a museum to tourists.
