The Treasury class are a late 1930s-era cutter for the USCG. 7 were built between 1936 and 1937. One, the USCGC Taney, is noted as the last ship having fired shots during the attack on Pearl Harbor, where Taney was in USCG Honolulu. During world war two, they were transferred to the navy (although only one ever took on the prefix 'USS'), where they fought u-boats in the winter of 1942-43 in the atlantic, served as amphibious task force flagships and convoy escorts. After world war two, they performed their usual coast guard duties, including search and rescue for the missing korean war and vietnam war pilots.

They continued their service into the mid to late 1980s, when they were phased out by the Hamilton class.
The treasury class were built for only $2.5 million, and some lasted more than 50 years of hard service.

Today, two survive, the USCGC Ingham in Key West, FL, and the USCGC Taney ('the last floating ship of pearl harbor,' although they tend to forget about the USS Hoga..) in Baltimore's inner harbor, MD.

I built this full interior, based on plans and recollection of my visit to taney in baltimore.

  Have something to say?
