FINALLY, the last of the Yorktown Class, USS Hornet CV-8 depicted as she appeared in October 1942 during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands. She had more differences from her sisters than I originally thought, which is part of why it took so long. Also might be because I got burnt out from the Yorktown class after doing Yorktown and Enterprise back-to-back. Either, way she's finally here.

This is nostalgic, I went to visit it when I was little. It's a museum or something, What I definitely remember is that there were planes on it, and it was drab gray. I see you're taking a different approach to the exterior, though I don't know what colors it used in 1942.



Why are "sunk" and "sink" in the tags if it never sunk? I remember one end of the runway was damaged by a big wave and repaired, but I don't think it ever sunk

You're thinking of the second USS Hornet, CV-12, which was an Essex class aircraft carrier named after this Hornet, CV-8. There were several Essex class carriers named after former carriers that had been sunk; Yorktown CV-10 named after Yorktown CV-5 that was sunk at Midway, Hornet CV-12 named after Hornet CV-8 sunk at Santa Cruz, Lexington CV-16 named after Lexington CV-2 that was sunk at the Battle of the Coral Sea, and Wasp CV-18 named after Wasp CV-7 which sunk by submarine attack. Yorktown CV-10, Hornet CV-12, and Lexington CV-16 are all still around as museums.
