ValkyRiver Escape Acad (1.19)

ValkyRiver Escape Acad is a map that consists of 64 levels of miniature prisons / escape rooms. The levels are split into 8 sections, each containing 8 levels. There is also a tutorial level (which doesn’t belong in any section). This is a 1.19 Java edition map, and it was made without WorldEdit (in a superflat world containing only bedrock).

NOTE: this map doesn’t work on 1.19.1 or later; only 1.19 works.

Intro rooms

There are 3 intro rooms before the Level Select room. The first room resembles Pandora’s Box, and is where the player initially spawns when first loading the map; read the book for instructions on how to play. To enter the second room, open the chest.The second room consists of a player-shaped door with two note blocks on the sides and a place to reset progress. Opening the door will lead to the Title room, which has “ValkyRiver Escape Acad” written as blocks.

Level Select room

Opening the second player-shaped door will lead to the Level Select room. This is also where the player will respawn after death. The note block on the left leads the player to the tutorial level. All other levels are accessed by pressing the note block in the corresponding colored section.

The 8 sections are:
• Green (1-8)
• Red (9-16)
• Pink (17-24)
• Orange (25-32)
• Cyan (33-40)
• Yellow (41-48)
• Gray (49-56)
• Blue (57-64)

As each level is completed, the bedrock block that the sign is on will change to the corresponding concrete block. Just below the stairs there is a small pool of water with a green lower surface. Once the first 8 levels (green section) are completed, this green layer will disappear, and reveal a red layer. Each completed section reveals a new layer; once all levels are complete, this water pool will connect to a water cave / tunnel that leads to the Exterior.

The Levels

In each level, the goal is to reach the “complete level” button (or if there is no button, place a button to trigger “complete level”). This will
clear the player’s inventory and teleport them back to the Level Select room, as well as show the level as completed.

In the first room of each level, you will be provided with a list of blocks not to break, and possibly some other rules as well (such as “do not place redstone on top of gold blocks”). Make sure to follow these rules; not following these rules could lead to unintended alternative solutions. The rules of each level only apply to the particular level itself, and do not carry across levels.


When the player enters a level, they will receive a knowledge book labeled “back to menu”. Removing this item from the player’s inventory by any means (such as right-clicking) will teleport the player back to the Level Select room without activating “complete level”. Unlike most prison maps, there is no need to reset the map if one fails or gets stuck on a level, since levels automatically reset upon a player entering. However, since observers power on when cloned, the player might be temporarily teleported to the “Loading…” room as the level loads.

Exterior

Once you complete all the levels (tutorial level is irrelevant), the water pool under the stairs in the Level Select room will reveal a water cave / tunnel that leads to the Exterior. (Note that one cannot drown in this area)

The Exterior contains a statue of ValkyRiver (the black shadow figure) and a statue of Alpha. There is also a long, winding river with numbers corresponding to the locations of the levels. One can use the concrete structures to switch between adventure and spectator mode. The chest in the Exterior is self-replenishing; make sure to have at least one “anti-teleport” knowledge book in your inventory when exploring the map, as the “back to menu” feature works by detecting whether the player has a knowledge book in their inventory.


Miscellaneous

A hints PDF file is provided in the world’s files, in case one needs them.
There is a bug with Level 63: the timer used there relies on “ms ticks” being 50, but due to the large amount of command blocks in this map, it may lag behind on some devices, which can lead to some unintentional solutions.

Love this map! It's intuitive, color-coded, and you can play levels as many times as you want.
Definitely didn't use hints to get past the harder levels....

And the statue is an 11/10. I have it featured on my banner. 👏
