This Artillery ship is fully functional, and the main cannon shoots over 400 blocks on a level plane (much further with any altitude). It fires 20 TNT projectiles in a scattershot pattern, causing extreme devestation to the target. Watch the attached video to see what I mean.
To fly the warship, you need Movecraft. However the gun works just fine without it, it is simply a redstone device.
Background
Towards the end of the War of Acquisition, things were getting desperate for the beleagured Silver Empire. They found themselves hopelessly outmatched in warships compared to the new Royal Navy and Pirate designs, and they had lost most of the advantage in fighter technology that they once had.
The Artillery ships were designed to help even the field against the superior Royal Navy and Pirate warships. With such devestating firepower they could easily pierce the enemies armor, nullifying one of the Royal's primary advantages. Unfortunately the highly complex gun suffered from setbacks, and the project was delayed by design flaws until the final phases of the war. Also, the weapon consumed huge amounts of propellant and high explosive in it's shells, making it difficult for the ever shrinking territories of the Empire to keep the ships supplied.
What would have happened if the Artillery warships had been available earlier in the war is a question that is lost to history. Certainly those Royal Navy and Pirate warships that did face the Artillery ship's devestating firepower quickly learned to respect and fear it.
Armament
Main Gun - 20 Propellant, 20 Projectile Artillery - Extremely long range, devestating firepower. Can be fired by the button on the nose bridge, or the button along the wall amidships if the bridge is destroyed. Arc is controlled with the repeater next to each button. More clicks on that repeater = higher arc.
12 AA guns - 2 forward facing controlled with the lever on the front part of the bridge, 5 on each side controlled with the levers on either side of the main bridge
