Welcome to Dimiourgo

Dimiourgo is a server where players will truly have full autonomy over the builds they create while owning vast sections of the map. We have no admins or staff dictating 'standards' to the rest of the players. So if you're looking to join a group of like-minded, talented individuals, we have a place for you here.

  Who we are

We are a group of builders who want to create large and interconnected communities. We're a pretty laid back group. We don't have any admins or staff to rule over other players. That goes against our core beliefs of having players unleash their talents without any interference. We play in survival mode (no "gamemode 1") and we've added some supporting mods to keep the game interesting. The mod list is similar to a slimmed down FTB pack with a couple extra supplemental mods (client side). Our goal is to bring in some more players to claim a piece of the map to make it their own. I have owned this map for a couple of years and have played with close friends, but we believe that now is a good time to invite others in as well. Anything you build in the server is fully yours. By that I mean I will save your builds via MCEdit and email you the schematics. For extra protection, the map is backed up on multiple systems weekly. We'd love for you to add your talents to our community.

  How to join

We are on version 1.4.5 but you can still join without having to revert your files. It's a very simple process (essentially, your adding an additional file). I have the client files packaged and ready for convenient file transfer (via filezilla). You basically will transfer over our .minecraft file (version 1.4.5 with all the mods packaged together) into a new folder. Then just switch your files. It is a very easy and impossible to mess up. It'll take 5 minutes tops and I will even do a skype shared screen session if you'd like. Plus, if you want to keep your current .minecraft files updated in order to play with other servers, you can. Simply switch the files back. You can have as many folders for different servers as you want.

  Our server

Our server is hosted by Craftyourbox. It is up 24/7. It has 2GB of ram and we rarely see any lag since there's usually only 3-4 players on (for now) at any given time. I'll obviously add more memory when more people join.

Our mods include:

  • Buildcraft
  • Industrial craft 2
  • Railcraft
  • Twilight Forest
  • Power Converters
  • Dimensional Anchors
  • Little blocks

Also included in the client files:
  • Matmos -- really awesome sound effects
  • Rei's Minimap
  • Misas Texture Pack (64x64)

  Why join Dimiourgo?

Player owned towns

We give new players a huge chunk of land (roughly 300x300 or 90,000 blocks). You will have full autonomy of your section of the server. The only rule for your town is to "acknowledge/respect the natural topography of the world". So, if you have a river flowing through your town, acknowledge it. Make sure your town appears to have bridges or diverge the river entirely. Everyone on the server agrees that it looks crappy to just blank out a river in a town only to have it reappear down the road. If you want, you could make your entire town level (like mine). Just make sure that, after your town limits, the level blends back to the regular height of the area around you (floating cities are ok as long as you're building within your designated space). Besides that reasonable rule, you have full autonomy to the look, feeling, and outline of your town. So make a modern city or village or medieval castle, anything you want. Most other servers will give you a couple of chunks to build a dinky little house. I give you a city that is fully yours. No one else can build in your area without your sayso. No one can mine resources underneath your town.

*Side note: if you wanted to, you could join another player's town and build together if you like the towns style. That's ok. Later, you can always claim your section of land. As the server gets more people, I would like to see towns recruiting people, but that's down the road. We'll see how that happens when it happens.

Mature non-griefing community

We are mature builders who find value in creating. The average age of all players is 22. The youngest player is 18. I'm the oldest at 27. This one reason is why we don't need 'rank' or 'admin' or any of that crap. We are a whitelist server which means we are more protected against griefers. Plus, our mods give extra protection in the form of personal safes (basically blast-proof chests which no one can access). Our map is backed up every week on two different computers while the server is hosted by a third party. So if anything were to happen, either from an obnoxious newbie or mishap with a mod, we have the ability to backdate the map easily (if the community is in agreement). Many times the community will come in and help rebuild whatever you lost and make it better and cooler to keep from reverting the files. As an added defense against griefing, I changed the blast yield of nuclear reactor meltdowns (industrial craft) so that your town will be safe. I reduced the blast yield of nuke bombs to zero. Too many cool builds to risk it. Finally, if you build something incredible, I can save that build specifically by using MCEdit. I'll simply save it and email you the zipped file so that you can put it on a single player map if you want. We don't build using MCEdit but its only responsible to save our work.

A good balance with mods

Our mixture of mods fits best with our map and players. Since our industrial craft 2 mod is still on 1.4.5 (its the only thing holding us back right now), the game version is 1.4.5. We've experimented with several different mods and found that if there are too few mods on a server, Minecraft can be a bit dull and two dimensional after a while. However, if there are too many mods, then that can also take the edge off (might as well play in creative mode) or play an entirely different game. Basically, we feel we've struck a good balance between function and form.

Support and video uploads

We encourage people to build unique cities and mega structures and, most importantly, interlinking communities (I leave a buffer zone between player's area but that can be ignore that if all parties are in agreement). Once you've finished a cool project, feel free to upload videos to youtube (and here, of course) of all your creations. You don't need to ask permission or anything like that. You can even upload videos of other's creations as long as you give proper credit. The more media attention the better.

Btw, please forgive our first youtube video. Several free video/audio programs usually don't work well together. We were lucky to get the audio this close to the video. Hopefully (when I get a decent paycheck), I'll do another video with better software.

Stability

Finally, we are not just another quick "pvp, mob arena, hunger games" type of server who advertise about being the biggest while at the same time promising people the position of admin. We are looking for people who will call our server 'home'. Everyone on my server is equal with land of their own. We've been building for a couple of years and are dedicated to the overall look and feel of the server. Like I said, our goal is to not just build buildings but to build the server as a whole. And with that goal in mind, we are in the middle of linking the map together with rails and lit roads (around the massive ocean sized lake). So the core group is invested in this map. We're not going anywhere.

If this sounds interesting, send me a private message or email me at minecraftdave1023@gmail.com and I'll send over some information. Thank you for your interest. (btw, Dimiourgo is Greek for "create". It just sounded cool)

**Info on some of the builds:

Pictures 7 and 8 showcase Lapis Bridge. This is a 1:1 ratio of the Lupu Bridge in Shanghai, China (http://www.seeshanghai.net/bridge/pages/Sh_Lupu_Bridge.htm). It spans 750 meters with inward leaning arches. This was completely built (as was everything on the server) in survivor mode (gamemode 0) and without MCEdit. This took a couple of months to plan, acquire materials, and build. I focused on portraying the bridge as accurately as possible with the limited amount of information the Chinese let out.

The 3rd picture showcases the design of our highway. We've recenlty finished the project. It now encompases the 'lake' (as you can see in the overview image) and is a lifeline to the rest of the communities.

The 4th picture is the main hall of the Egyptian Theater. This build what I would call my first 'mega project' where I had to actually plan somewhat extensively before laying the first blocks. This is also the only building in my town where I spent most of my time designing the inside rather that the outside.

The Apartment Complex (6th picture) is inspired from the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) project called Scala Tower:http://www.big.dk/#projects-sca. Their building is only an idea at the time, but I wanted to build it to see how it looks. And, yes, it is made out of glowstone. That took a while to acquire the materials.

Transmine Pyramid (5th picture) is, obviously, a model of the Transamerica Pyramid. They are a dime a dozen in Minecraft servers, but at least mine has the correct angles. It's about a 2:3 scale model.

The last two images are from another town across the waterway (where the bridge connects to). That player is more interested in 16th century English style villages. I put those pictures on here to showcase some of the different architectural designs on the server.

Additional Notes

Dimiourgo is a survival map with a few forge-based mods to keep things interesting. We strive to build complex and beautiful features while growing a linked community of player owned towns.
