It is the year of our Lord 1600, Europe has seen these past centuries many new events that changed the course of its history, from the darkness of times emerged the light of the Renaissance in the 15th century, bringing the continent into a new era of scientific and social innovations. By 1600, most European countries have embraced the ideals of the Renaissance. The influence of Ancient Greeks philosophers touched the hearts of many Europeans thinkers to valorise human life before everything else. Arts were greatly influenced as well and artists are slowly depicting more and more scenes that are not only of religious matters, but of the nature that surround them and the human’s life itself. Men such as Da Vinci greatly improved scientific progress, such as: the nature of the human body, mathematics --now known to be even better than they once were. Also, Weaponry saw a great leap forward with the introduction of gunpowder to Europe, beyond weapons such as longswords and bows, which are now starting to become obsolete in face with the death machine that is the flintlock musket. Societies are reforming themselves, as feudalism is slowly being reduced to go towards more centralized governments that act in the sole interest of the nation itself.

In the western part of the continent, Spain emerged as a great empire. Under the Habsburgs dynasty, their vast empire included the title of Holy Roman Emperor, control over Naples, a personal union over Portugal as well as control over The Netherlands (which they inherited from Burgundy); but, what made Spain become the largest empire of its time was their discovery of the ‘New World and all of its wealth, which honored them the title of “the empire on which the sun never set.” However, the netherlands slipped through their hands in the past 15 years, leading to the foundation of a Dutch Republic.

The Dutch Republic’s sovereignty is not accepted by many; however, their successful military campaigns against the might of the Spanish empire and their growing economy seems to be great enough for them to establish a promising future…

As the Spanish empire continues to grow, its powerful rivals France and England are looking west to also find rich lands and most importantly, a more ideal trade route to India…

In the Holy Roman Empire, religious tensions are at a boiling point, despite the many treaties that were signed between the Protestants and the Catholics. Nothing seem to be able to keep the peace between the two sides, and religious conflicts are imminent. The Holy Roman Empire shall never be united again…

Meanwhile, in the East, the Islamic Ottoman Empire has taken advantage of the current religious division between Christians to advance their border closer and closer towards Europe’s heartlands, as they’ve already taken the Hungarian lands. Now, their armies are looking west, towards Vienna and all of the infidel countries that stand in the European continent...

Changes to The Catholic Church Came to a head in this age. With the deconstruction of the old Saint Peter’s Basilica, the construction of the new church brought into the world a church never before seen on this Earth. Great works of art are now in place of the old basilica, featuring a masterpiece work known as the Sistine Chapel. Rome has grown with this rebuilt version of the church and gives more glory to God almighty through His vicar on Earth, the Pope, as the way to counter the Protestant reformation.
