Captain's Job.
-A not-so short story written by Billi Smith.-
Also part two of Spike.
But this takes place after the game and in the Captain's POV!

We had finished both the games for today and were grabbing our things to bring back to the school gym for the quick lecture for tomorrow's game. Today was tiring to say the least and a struggle! Although it seemed the team really pulled through, especially with our wing spiker, Elie. He was a huge help today although I couldn't help but notice Arin, the team's original ace being so quiet. The raven was often always cheering on the team for their hard work but since the first game he's been oddly silent. He was pulling on the blue and green jacket which most the team member wore. It was closely like our volleyball uniforms, although on the back was the school name instead of the number of the player. Arin sighed, his voice was shaky as he looked back to the others. "I'm uh.. Gonna head outside for a bit okay? I need some fresh air before the bus ride." He sounded highly off, he was too quiet. He waved at everyone before heading off outside, disappearing out the door. I looked to our setter, observing the blonde's expression as he shrugged and I gave him a look while asking. "Do you think he's okay?" I asked with a worried tone and the setter shook his head and chuckled. "Why are you asking me when you know the answer?" He replied with a small smile and I sighed in return. Grabbing my jacket from off the bag it rested on. "I'm gonna go find him." I said and quickly walked in the direction Arin had gone. The rest of the team watched me suddenly go off after the boy who had left and they all turned to the setter. "Why are you all looking at me?!" He yelled in the distance which was followed by laughter.

I slowly made my way outside, peaking out the door to see the black haired boy Arin sitting against the wall of the building on the concrete silently. He was staring straight ahead, his expression clearly upset and twisted with frustration and sadness. He sighed as he heard me close the door behind myself. "Hey captain." He said with a shaky, pained tone as he looked to me with a forced smile on his pale face. I waved with a small smile and soon sat next to him. "Need some fresh air too?" He asked me, soon looking away and back to right in front of him. "Ah- yeah I guess. But I also came to find you.." I chuckled nervously at the end of my sentence, feeling very awkward.
"Why's that? Are we leaving right-" I cut him off by shaking my head with a sigh and looking at him with a worried expression. "Arin, are- are you okay? You've been off since the first game and- well I'm worried." I admitted with a worry filled tone, tilting my eyebrows as I watched his eyebrows furrow and him chuckle quietly. "Honestly? Not even close to okay." He said as he soon scrunched his knees to his chest. "I just don't really feel like the ace anymore. Let alone a player that should be on the starting line-up." He admitted with a pained tone to his voice, breaking up slightly as he continued before I could speak. "I guess I'm not really having all that much fun anymore." He muttered, as his eyes looked to the side. I didn't know how to feel. I felt worried though and now almost guilty. I looked down then back at Arin, inhaling and then speaking. "Arin, do you feel like a liability to the team?" I asked, tilting my head as I watched him nod slowly. I then exhaled and shook my head. "Wanna know a secret then?" I questioned him, he looked back at me and nodded once more. I chuckled and scooted closer, suddenly giving the raven a tight hug. "Well you see. The reason you're even on the starting line-up is cause you're our ace Arin. Nothing's gonna change that fact unless you let someone steal your title. Are you gonna really let that happen right now?" I muttered to him, he seemed suddenly tense though eventually relaxed. "Well.. I-..No.." He'd stutter over his words a bit before deciding his answer with a sigh. "Then tomorrow, you're gonna be the ace got it? And your teammate's are gonna be there to make sure of it! Especially me!" I encouraged, feeling Arin suddenly hug back. "Heh.. Well captain's orders right?" He asked, his voice suddenly sounding full of relief. "Captain's orders. It's my job after all." I nodded, smiling softly as I soon pulled away and there was a small smile on Arin's face. "You're not wrong, Captain." He said in replied and then quickly added to his words.
"I'll do my best."

"You better."

I hope you enjoyed reading this! I absolutely loved getting to make this skin and story! This is also adding to my team of color palette volleyball players! I decided to go with a happy ending for this, because of how adorable this color palette is! I also wanted to do something wholesome ehehhe.
