Dementors are dark non-beings, considered some of the dirtiest to inhabit the world. Dementors feed on human happiness and thus cause depression and despair to anyone close to them. They can also consume a person's soul, leaving their victims in a permanent vegetative state; as a result, they are often referred to as "soul-sucking demons." They are known to leave a person as "empty".
