This is a houmongi or furisode kimono (both are good for formal visits) I made for March. The pink color celebrates spring and blooming plants like sakura. Butterflies (chou chou) are also a motif often used on spring clothes. The obi (belt) is wrapped in otaiko musubi (drum knot) and while with a furisode you would really need some fancier bow I actually wanted to keep the butterfly motif on it perceivable.

The hair is put in a simple bun so that it doesn't hide the top of the kimono or collar. She is wearing geta (sandals) and tabi (socks). I put a blue hanao on the geta to match the obijime. Although thinking about it later I think she should be wearing zori sandals.

Kimonos are a hobby of mine and I like to try and make all the details match the traditions. The kimono has a motif and a gradient of color on the hem and the sleeves which is customary for houmongi and sometimes furisode. The collar of the kimono is folded with the left side overlapping the right and at the front you might see the ohashori fold just below the obi. The obi has a motif deliberately on the waist part and the otaiko part (knot at the back) which is especially common for nagoya obi. I've chosen a faint orange obiage and blue obijime for this assemble. The bright colors and the many kanzashi in her hair indicate a young person.

The six pixel butterfly is not something I came up with on my own, it's from another work that I could unfortunately no longer find to credit the inventor. Please let me know if you know the artist or if such butterflies are a commonly used motif. I hoped it would be okay to use the motif, same as everyone draws flowers on kimonos the same way. Butteflies are a common motif on kimonos and there is a limited amount of ways you can draw them in pixel art ^^; I would know as I did try to figure out some other way.
