I couldn't find a way to add the screws/bolts because it looked kinda goofy on the skin lol (and because I'm not that good at making skins)

The screws could probably work on the hat layer. For the red accents, you could just have diagonal pink pixels. You're correct in assuming that would be tricky though.

you might try having the base layer be a diagonal of pink and gray, and then do gray pixels in place of the pink on the overlay, leaving the corresponding gray spaces on the base empty
