This earth was once like ours, everyone lived on it as we do on ours, but sadly the unfortunate happened to this earth. It's sun has been dragged, and eaten by a black hole, and nothing could have have stopped it... Now this earth flies around in space, cooling down to un-measurable temperatures, and so is everything on it... It's in its first stages of freezing. Everything on it has died at this point, but nothing will decay, because all is dead.

If this is the same earth as ours, some life still hangs on. Sure, the sun is a distant memory, but it will take 91 billion years for the earth's core to cool, providing plenty of chemosynthesis to some creatures, like the yeti crabs and tubeworms in the ocean's abyssal zone, which would be completely unaffected by the sun's disappearance. It's interesting to know that even without the sun, life soldiers on.
