The original white wolf; the stories of Elric have influenced the likes of The Witcher, Warhammer Fantasy, Game of Thrones / Song of Ice and Fire, and World of Warcraft. Michael Moorcock's most famous and tragic antihero practically birthed the dark fantasy genre and the ideal antihero by twisting everything we considered normal about the likes of Robert E. Howard and Tolkien's works into a grim, deprave form of itself. Elric is a white-haired wandering spell-sword, slayer of monsters, lord of dragons, and doomed ruler of a vile race that once ruled the known world. He wields the parasitic Stormbringer, a black runic sword which grants him the strength his frail albino body needs, at the cost of his loved ones which the sword hungers for. Many fantasy blades owe their existence to Stormbringer, such as World of Warcraft's Frostmourne (named after another black blade in Elric, Mournblade), Legacy of Kain's Soul Reaver, and The Elder Scroll's Ebony Blade. This sword, and the destined tragedy of Elric's life, would destroy his home Melniboné, and claim the lives of many dear friends.
