Since his childhood Gru was an evil villain until the day he adopted 3 little girls.
Slowly his heart was softened by those little girls. He even gave up from the moon that he just robbed but when his daughters were kidnapped by a rival, Victor, he did not measure efforts to recover them.
After some time he was recruited by an like-Interpol-organisation to find an secret formula that someone robbed. Later we discovered that the guilty was "El Macho" a villain that faked his death. During this investigations, GRU falled in love with the agent that recruited him, Lucy, and in the end he have to rescue her for "El Macho".
