They carry a very hard chitin carapace, have giant Facet eyes, sharp teeth and are incredibly intelligent. They cling their victims with their claws to their breast basket to tear them up with their teeth. They're called "Locusts" because of the look of a mutated insect.
They also do not need any oxygen to survive and have a unique body structure with a hard armor that allows them to survive for a short time in space, so they can attack ships and penetrate steel and their shields.
Their origin planet is unknown, they were discovered on a contaminated wreck in the middle of space. Through an expedition ship, they were carried as a blind passenger to a space station and now spread out unimpeded.
